One Word - 2021

 

 

I have decided that my One Word for 2021 is going to be Balance. I know that this is going to be a difficult word for this year, and I have no expectations that the teeter-totter of life will be balanced everyday but I do want to be more aware of how much time I focus on things and other people versus focusing on things that will enable me to be better with my family, my work and my creative endeavours.

 

Finish

 

I usually choose One Word for the Year, and this year the word is Finish. I really want to finish what I have started. I have so many projects that are almost completed, that get set aside for one reason or the other and this year is their year! I have reorganized my quilting room and I am ready to begin.

The first finish I have for the year is my hexagon place mat.  I started it on my retreat in November and decided that I did not want to wait until next Christmas to get it done. I am so happy that it is done, and I have a spot to keep it all year round.

Churn Dash and Stars

 

I have tried every year to pick One Word which will be a goal for me throughout the year. Someone on Twitter wished on New Year's Day that this is the year that you Flourish. I realized that that is what I wanted for myself this year, and that is the word I chose.

Part of my flourishing was spending a whole weekend cleaning up my quilting room. Fabric needed to be put away and more space needed to be created. After accomplishing that, one of my goals was to get some of my long standing projects done. Right now, I am working on 2 1/2 inch squares for a border on my daughter's quilt and for a rainbow Irish Chain quilt. I wanted to have another quilt to work on so the squares would be leaders and enders.

When cleaning up,  I realized that my Churn Dash and Stars quilt was taking up a lot of space and it would be a good one to get finished. It was my project to work on when I needed a break from something else and since it was for me it did not have a timeline. Now, the timeline will be to get it done this year. Here's hoping to flourish this year.

One Word

 In continuing the One Word Challenge I hope to have more peace this year. More peace in myself and with those around me. I hope to enjoy the quilting process more, where I have been, where I am going and to make peace with some items not yet finished.


 

When looking for images of Peace I found this quote by John Lennon. I found it to be so appropriate. I want to make peace, be peace and give peace to my loved ones this year. Hopefully my quilts and sewn items will bring that to others.

One Word

I have decided to start again with my One Word Challenge and have chosen the word Faith. I was thinking over the holidays, about what has been lacking in me, and I realize that it is Faith. I have lost my faith over the past year in myself and the world around me. I am hoping to have more of it in my life and in my quilting.

One Word

For the past few years, I have chosen one word, and found it to be very helpful for me to think about throughout the year. The past years, I have chosen MYSELF, BREATHE AND RELAX. This year I have chosen the word:

FOCUS

When I did my Year End Review for 2013 I was amazed at how much I had accomplished and how many WIPs I had completed. I want to continue this and really focus on each project I am doing and really continue to strive to complete the goals and projects I have set for myself.

 

Here is one of my first projects of the year. My son needed a new pencil case, so I offered to make him one. He wanted it to be bigger so it could hold all of his supplies. He chose the fabric and I made it. I have to say I love his taste. Now my daughter wants me to make one for her.

One Word

I have been doing the one word for the year, for the past two years and I have decided to continue this year. I found that my last two words, Myself, and Breathe really helped so I took some time to make a decision. I had it narrowed done to two choices and then made the final decision.

RELAX

 I was worried that for 2013 I needed to have a focus, or join a lot of different groups. I decided instead to relax, and enjoy quilting for its many stress free benefits, though it can be stressful at times. I also decided to relax in life as well, and focus on the things that I can do and change, and try to let go of some of the rest. It has been a week and it has been working though nothing is ever perfect.


 

On a lighter note, I made this cosmetic bag for my niece for Christmas. She absolutely loved it, which surprised me a bit. The bottom fabric was used as the border for the quilt I gave her last year at Christmas. I also need to give a huge thank you to Darlene of Quilting Daze and  Cheryl of Polka Dots & Rick Rack . I participated in the Christmas Throughout the Year, and as well as managing to make 3 scarfs, and a cosmetic bag the week before Christmas, I also got a quilt done, and some smaller projects that I made throughout the year. It all helped to make Christmas less stressful for me. I am linking to Linky Tuesday hosted by Freemotion by the River.

 

2011 Year In Review

Going through my blog for the past year, I realized I did a lot more than I thought which is a great feeling.  I got 8 quilts done, along with some smaller projects as well as getting much further on many of my UFOs. I think I only started a few new quilts which are on my UFO list for this year.


Looking back I found my One Word Challenge - Myself. I think I did well being true to myself this year. I tried out new things (zippers)! and said no to things that would take to much time. I am going to do the challenge again and this year my word is :

BREATHE

I need to remember that there will be things that happen beyond my control, and that I do not need to try to solve everything. Taking a moment for those deep breaths will help a great deal.

One word

I have seen a couple of different groups talking about choosing a word for the year which reflects something you want to focus on in 2011. I thought I would play along too, and did some thinking about what my word would be. I came up with the word:

MYSELF

To me, it means being more true to myself in my quilting, making time for myself, and organizing myself better so that I have less stress. One of the things I did this weekend for myself was meet Ariane for coffee/tea. We had a great time and she gave me this beautiful mug rug, along with a beautiful cup and saucer.

She is so amazingly talented. She wrapped it up in snowmen fabric, and I love snowmen. She also made a beautiful purse for my daughter which I have to admit I already borrowed yesterday.

I am hoping by focusing on myself, I will better be able to support and help the people I care for. I'll let you know how I do.
