Finish It Up Friday - Rooftops

Rooftops

My Chopsticks quilt has been finished and delivered. I decided to call it Rooftops, as it is for a friend who bought a home this summer. I ended up adding a border, because I was a bit worried about its size. My friend loves it, and as always it reminds me of why I quilt even though it can be frustrating at times. I love keeping the people I love and care about warm.

This has become one of my favourite's and my husband's too. It will go on my list of one to make him.

Binding

Nothing on my design wall today. I am just  trying to figure out how many projects I can squeeze to a finish before the 25th.

I started working on the binding for my Chopsticks quilt early this morning. I decided to machine bind it. I have done it a couple of times with smaller wall hangings, but decided to see if there other methods out there in quilting land. I found this tutorial by  Rachel of Stitched in Color who uses a zigzag stitch to keep it together. I liked the look of it so decided to use it on this quilt. It is going well so far.

Thank you very much for all of the tips on basting for my Quilter's Gallery Blog Hop Party with Giveaways. The winner is #1 Terry.

Triangulation

Chopsticks

My Chopsticks top is sewed, the sides have been cut and it is ready to go to the quilter's. I have been practicing my FMQ but we still are not getting along. I am still trying to convince my DH that, that would be a great thing for him to do. I decided to leave off border, because the quilt felt finished. The original pattern does not have borders either. I also tested it out on my dh (he's good for a lot of things) and it is a good lap size for him. I am linking up with Can I Get A Whoop Whoop at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and to the Virtual Sewing Room at Amylouwho.

Design Wall Monday

Chopsticks

I have all of the blocks finished now, and now need to figure out where I am going to put them. This has been such a fun project. I have been enjoying the Olympics. There has been so much drama and excitement and it has only the third day! Check out what others have made for Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times.

WIP Wednesday

I am having so much fun with my Chopsticks pattern. I love triangles and how easily they come together. I was very impressed with my daughter. When she saw it, she told me you have two patterns diamonds and hourglasses. I had not seen that. She is amazing. I could definitely see make this pattern again, in bright and bolds or in girly colours for a baby. Julie has great patterns. Adrift

I have been adrift for a while now. After my quilt show in June, I took a break, and was not sure what to do next. I usually pick one or two summer projects and I thought this year, I might work on my UFOs. Then this week, when I started to get things organized, I read about a quilt along organized by Nicole of Sister's Choice Qults, Thelma of Cupcakes 'n' Daisies and Lisa of Stashmaster  for the Spools pattern by Camille of Thimble Blossoms. I love that it is a go along at your own pace, do what you want quilt along. What was also great was the fact that the pattern was available in PDF.  I bought it yesterday, but have yet to decide what fabrics I will use to make with it.

I also had been playing around with some fabrics, and realized they would be perfect for the Chopsticks pattern that I had won from Julie of Jaybird Quilts. I went to my LQS yesterday, picked up a triangle ruler, which turned out to be a bit smaller than I needed, so I adjusted the pattern and today I started cutting out fabrics. It is fast and easy, and a great way to showcase those big, bold prints. I ended up eating really late because I was so involved in the project, and now I need to run some errands, though I have no interest in doing so. Ironically my horoscope says "At some point during the day you might find yourself involved in a project that piques your interest far more than usual. You could throw yourself more deeply into it than is necessary now. Take care that it doesn't distract you from what needs to be done."

It is great to be anchored again!
