Tuesday's Treasures

My mother-in-law gave me a gift card for Christmas to a quilt store. The store had a clearance sale on their Mystery boxes and I was able to get both of them, Happy and Timeless. Each box contains 25 fat quarters and I was thrilled to see so many that would fit with projects I am working on right now. I will definitely be sharing these with my children. For right now I have not taken them out of their boxes; I am still at the admiring stage. As always it is wonderful to have family who support your passions.

I also made myself another hat on the weekend to go with a new coat. The balls of yarn all had a different colour to start with and my son thought I should pick the one that started with red. I think he gave really good advice as I like how it came together.

Warm Heads, Warm Hearts

My children are very talented crafters. Along with quilting they both have other crafts that they enjoy. Last weekend we went to a craft store to get some supplies for them and I fell in love with some yarn.

There was a free pattern in front of it to either make a knit hat or a slouchy crochet hat. It has been a long time since I have crocheted so I decided to make the crochet hat and I knew my daughter would like that style.

I started to make the hat, read the instructions but only noticed one of the small notes that you needed to know to make the hat. I got about two thirds of it done and knew that something was wrong. I went over the  pattern again and realized my mistake. I ended up taking it all out and starting it again.

In the end it turned out well and my daughter was very happy with it. She wore it to school which for me feels like having one of my designs at the Oscars.

As it turns out there was enough yarn to make two hats so I made one for myself as well.

It was nice to have a break from quilting. When I was getting out my crocheting hook I found some other half finished projects so they may be some more crocheting in my future!

Letter of the Day - L

The quilt I am working on reminds me of Sesame Street and the letter of the day. I have never made a quilt with so many different blocks. Last night for Friday Night Sew-In, the letter of the day was L. The blocks go to Q so I still have a ways to go. There are 99 blocks in total and I am anxious to see them all laid out.  I have found this quilt closest to being a puzzle so I am hoping it will all fit together.

Mint Sophistication

I finished the quilt for my daughter last weekend while she was away winter camping. I was very happy to give her something warm to cozy up with after she returned in a blizzard. I was a nervous wreck until she and my husband got home. She chose the pattern and colours and I did the sewing work. Again I love the colours she chose and of course I would love one of these for me. I have been working on bindings for the past few weeks and now I need to get back to some quilting for some upcoming deadlines. For now I am going to enjoy the fact that she shares this quilt with me.

I Got My Wish!

I got my wish! My daughter started on my quilt this weekend. I am so excited to see it come together. We had a big quilting weekend as my daughter gave away two quilts this weekend. The one she had just finished, and another one that she had helped me out with. Both of the recipients were so happy and pleased with the quilts. One of them was quite overcome with emotion. My daughter enjoys giving quilts away and I am so pleased that they are so well received.

Some More Binding

Now I am working on the binding for the quilt I made for my daughter. She picked the pattern and fabric and I simply did the sewing. It was fun to get to sew and have all of the decisions already made. I have fallen in love with the aquas and greys that she chose and would love to make a quilt another time with these colours. For now I get to sit with her and bind which is my favourite place to be!

Not My Friday Finish

This is not my Friday Finish but my daughter's. She made this incredible, gorgeous quilt for a family friend. She picked the pattern and took a lot of time and care choosing the fabrics. I am so amazed at her talent and thoughtfulness. She has become a quilter in her own right. I have her next quilt cut out for her and I hope she starts it soon. She says it is going to be for me.
