The last block instruction for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along was put up yesterday and I was eager to get it done.

I am really happy that I have been able to keep up with this quilt along. I am looking forward to put it all together.

Friday Night Sew-In

I got my 11th block done for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. I was looking at the quilt this morning. It will fit nicely in my living room and I think it is going to be come an all round year quilt.

Jane has been a great blogging friend for a long time now. She is the one who got me into blogging with her addictive swaps. Mel I have gotten to know as well through swapping and blogging. Jane is looking for 4-patches for Lissa, Mel's sister-in-law who has been in the ICU for 7 months now. To learn more about the quilt, go to Jane's post.

Feeling Good

Yesterday was my birthday and I had the Michael Buble version of Feeling Good in my head all day.

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good.


It was a great birthday. I actually made time over the weekend to look after myself. I cut my hair cut and some new clothes, something which I rarely do. My world is being rocked a bit right now, just a bit and just gently. I had a lot of reflection time over the weekend to think about things and the direction I want to be in for the next year. Things are going to be changing, but the memories and feelings will still be there.

One of the things said to me on the weekend was by my daughter. She asked me why did I have to grow up to be a quilter? I think that suggests more time with her is needed and I am hoping to change the direction of my quilting to reflect that need. I would love to do more hand stitching and more redwork. Machine quilting and I just don't seem to get along and I am fine with that.

My birthday itself was spent with friends and family. I was surprised at work yesterday with a cake made by my friend. I got to have lunch with my closest co-workers and enjoy the warmth of their company. I got some birthday money and went right away and ordered some fabric that I have been wanting for a long time.

I am trying to get done as much as possible for my PHD challenge in the last few weeks of the challenge. I still also have my bees to complete as well. July will be a welcome respite, and a move forward.

Since we need to have a photo here is Block 7 of my Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. I have really been enjoying this. The pace is just right for me and I love each of the blocks.

Progressing nicely

Just finished a nice long weekend here in Canada. Gorgeous, hot weather and lots of family to see. It has been a couple of weeks since I had to chance to quilt, so I took a bit of time here and there to get some things finished.

Here is Block 6 for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along.  I am halfway done now, and getting excited. It is going to be a beautiful quilt for me.

Here is my finally finished block for my Sew Modern Bee. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to make with it. This block is called Peppermint Spinners from Quilter's Cache.

I finally figured out what to do with my Mystery Quilt that I talked about in this post. All of these individual strips were suppose to be scrappy. Part of my problem with the quilt was that I would have to sew all of the squares, cut them up into little scraps and then try to reorganize them back into a square. For me, I find this harder to do with the little bits of time I have. I saw a quilt a few days ago that had this organized scrappy look, and I decided to try it out. I really like it. Now, I can sew a couple of squares at a time and not have to work about losing the little strips.

I also got some more work done on my snowman quilt. I might actually have a winter quilt this year. To celebrate all I got done, I started on a new secret project that I can't show you right now (I have always wanted to say that), but will in a couple of weeks.

Spring to Finish Halfway Point

1. Remove wallpaper from my hallway. DONE
2. Decorate my dining room.
3. Get rid of some toys and books.
4. Organize my children's clothing. HALF DONE
5. Get a label on my friend's quilt and give it to her.
6. Pick a pattern for my sister's quilt. DONE
7. Finish my mom's quilt top. DONE
8. Finish my zig zag quilt top.
9. Put together my guild blocks into a table runner.
10. Quilt my tulip table runner.

It is the halfway point for the Spring to Finish challenge and I have 3 1/2 things done. I am hoping to get a few more done this week, so hopefully I will have a good finish.

I managed to get my Jelly Roll Sampler Block done in the nick of time. I like how it turned out but I had a few mistakes with the cutting. I have also finally figured out what I want to do for my Sew Modern Bee. It involves pinwheels, my new favourite thing. I should have it done in the next couple of days.

Work In Progress Wednesday

Here is my fourth quilt block for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. I have been really enjoying this quilt along. I have actually been able to keep up with it.

Here are all 4 of them together.

I have started on a new project and I am at my least favourite part; the cutting. Here is the pile of fabric ready to be sewn. I love how from cutting the same shapes you can have an infinite number of ways of putting together a quilt. I have to admit I have changed my mind about a quilt design after having cut it.

Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along

Here are my first 2 blocks for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along.  I am using my Peace on Earth Jelly Roll. I have enjoyed making them and I find the 2 week pace something I can keep up with. I am not usually good with surprises, so it has been great to stretch myself, not knowing how the finished quilt will look like.
