Zigzag quilt

I finished the zigzag quilt for my sister’s friend three weeks ago. I am so fortunate to have had my daughter help me with the design and placement of fabrics. The zigzag design is one of my favourites. Once I got going it went together quickly but it was a slow start. My sister told me that it was a big hit at the baby shower which made me very happy.

Friday Night Sew In - Zig zag

Friday Night Sew In was spent organizing the zigzag quilt I am making for my sister’s friend. My daughter designed the quilt. I laid it out to see how much I have left to do. I did get the last rows done and now I am ready to sew it together.

Zigzag Quilt

This quilt has been done for a couple of weeks but we have had such few sunshine days to take photos. It is the first quilt that I completely designed myself. It is also completely made of half square triangles which is something I have not done either.

I also designed the back of the quilt as well. I had started with another design for the quilt but decided I did not like it. I kept the squares for some other use and then decided they would work well on the back so I would have a record of my designing process.

Normally, I name quilts once I finish them but this one has been called Zigzag quilt for so long, that no other names seemed appropriate. It has now become my son's quilt.  I have a few ideas in mind for some other quilts and have definitely enjoyed the designing process.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Today is a day for me to relax and to be grateful for my family. I so love being with my husband and children. We have had a week off together and I will miss being away from them tomorrow. My Slow Stitching Sunday is working on my binding for my Zigzag quilt which will become my son's. It is something I started years ago and I will be thrilled to have it finished. I have just signed up for Netflix and have started to watch Prison Break while doing the binding. My sister recommended it to me years ago and I am enjoying watching it.

Zigzag into the New Year!

This quilt is one of my own design. I started it in 2011 and the top was finished in 2012. It was a good size when it was done but it felt a wee bit too small. I was never quite sure what to do with it, so it sat for a couple of years. On my quilting retreat this year, I brought it with me and decided to add borders along the side. I had had my son check it out for me and he felt it was long enough, but not wide enough. I liked having the borders along the side but not on the top because it felt like it made it seem wider without boxing in the design. I had originally planned on making a Jacob's Ladder quilt with the fabric and so I had a few blocks left from that idea.

I put them on the back, and I love the design. I worked on this at 11:00 pm at the retreat when I was the only one left up quilting. One of the good things about a retreat is the ability to clear your mind of everything but the quilting. This has now been sent to the quilter and will be one of my first finishes for 2016!

Design Wall Monday - Zigzag

 Zigzag

This quilt can now be finally off of my Design Wall. I finished the top this weekend. I had it on my Design Wall for so long, and eventually I needed the space so I took it off the wall, earlier this year. I was not sure it it was ever going to get finished. My daughter was quite impressed when I told her that I had designed the quilt myself. She told me that it was really cool that no one else would have the same quilt and that she wanted to buy it. She offered me 25 cents, and then told me that her final offer was 45 cents. She is such a sweetie. Check out what others have going on at Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times.

Design Wall Monday - Zigzag

Zigzag Quilt

Getting started on the sewing of my zigzag quilt worked. I only have a few more rows to complete and the quilt top will be finished. It is exciting to see it all come together. Check out what others have on their Design Walls at Patchwork Times.

Traveling Forward

After my Travel Back in Time post I decided it was time to give the zigzag quilt another look. I had gotten tired of the half square triangles so I decided to start sewing the rows together to help me get some motivation. Well it is working! I only have a few more half square triangles to make so once I get to that point, I will make them and keep going! TNT Thursday

In the fall, I had gotten some Wiscasset Charm packs and started playing with them. After I had sewed one charm pack together I did not like the direction it was going in and set them aside. I found some other patterns that I liked better, and was trying to decide what to do with the blocks I had already sewn. I have a quilting friend who likes these colours and so I came up with the idea of making a sewing machine cover. I used the dimensions from this tutorial at Sew Mama Sew. I am really happy with out it turned out, and I now I want to make one for myself. I gave it to my friend this week, and I am linking up to Try New Things Thursday at Happy Quilting.
