Easily Fixed!

Well, I got my Woodland Trails quilt fixed and sent off to the quilter's this weekend. It is made from Jaybird Quilts' Northern Light pattern.  I had put in one row slanting the wrong way, and only realized when I went to cut the sides to make it a rectangle. I thought that I may have to take out all the rows after it, but I only had to take out the one row, and then sew it to the end. I am so thrilled with it. My son nudged me to get it done because it is for his Cub Scout leader who has been a big part of his life for the past few years. I was happy to oblige him.

Mother's Day Quilt Show

 

My husband and children planned a huge surprise for me. My daughter had wanted us to go to a quilt show, for Mother's Day but the nearest one was a few hours away and we weren't going to have time to do it and have supper with her grandparents. They came up with the idea instead of having a quilt show at our house with me as the quilter of honour. My son came out for a walk with me, which is my favourite thing to do, and while we were gone my husband and daughter set it up. They strung some line in our family room, front foyer and kitchen and put up a lot of the quilts. There were 14 in the show. They made a sign for the front door, and charged an admission of $5. My son had the $5 hidden in his shoe, so that he could pay for me. There were gloves available at the front table, and we were told not to touch the quilts unless we had a glove on. After the tour was complete, they also had the lunch room, which is my daughter's favourite part.  We had egg salad sandwiches in the tea room, along with ice cream for dessert because the quilt shows always have dessert. I was completely blown away, touched and shocked by all they had done. They decided not to award a best in show, because every quilt was the best. Definitely, the most wonderful Mother's Day ever. I told my husband he won't get it as good for Father's Day. I was amazed at how much my children had paid attention to all of the details of a quilt show and remembered all of them. They have been going to them since they were babies, so they are veterans by now.

So close and yet so far!

I was eagerly getting a quilt ready to take to the quilter's. All that needed to be done was to cut done the sides to make it rectangular. As I started cutting, I realized that I had made a big mistake. Each row needed to be offset from one another, but I had put two in the same direction. If I cut through the end of the block, the one block would be completely gone. I did not have enough time to fix it, so I set it aside and took a different quilt instead to the quilter's. I will fix my mistake and then it will be ready to go. I am going to be making this quilt again, so I will remember to be extra careful about where I place the blocks!

Hoot, Hoot!

My owl quilt is coming along. I am at the point I dislike in these types of quilt; the scrappy but not completely scrappy layout. I have the blocks laid out on my quilting floor and trying to ensure it all turns out right. It is a slower process and once I get near the end I am always happier.

Reading Rainbow

As part of my Drop and Give Me Twenty for February, I got this quilt top done. I had the sections done last year but had not put them together. As always I really like this. I liked the pattern when I first saw it but I was not sure about the white, since I have never liked making quilts with lots of white in them. I think all of the colours really help. I am calling it Reading Rainbow because it reminds me of books on a shelve and my local library's logo.This is a quilt that I will happily be keeping with me when it is all finished.

FNSI - Pinky Owl

It was fun to spend some time on a Friday Night Sew In. The Pinky Owl is starting to come together. I am finding I am enjoying scrappy quilts more and more as I continue to quilt. I ended up being a bit of a Night Owl to work on it. There are times when I find quilting to be so frustrating, and times when I find it so zen. This quilt has been one of the zen times, and it is helping me to remember to relax and just enjoy the sewing. Sometimes there needs to be no grand scheme, just a good time!

Design Wall Monday - Pinky Owl

I hope everyone had a great International Quilting Day. I spent some time this weekend working on this quilt. It is Hootenanny by Boo Davis. It is a great scrap quilt. I had more than enough pinks in my stash, and the brown background I bought on sale. I really enjoyed making the Hot Dog quilt I made using her pattern and this one is just as fun.
