Time for a Picnic Again

I have been working away at my Picnic quilt over the past week. I stopped for a while because things were not going to get together perfectly. I am still trying to learn that perfection should not be the optimum goal. I took it out again, fixed a couple of things and started sewing. A couple of spots to fill in, put the rows together and with some fabulous quilting it will look great.

I was at my LQS and found some great fabric for the back. It was on clearance, which made it even better. I have to say I have found some amazing backings in the clearance section. I would like to have it done for June so I hope to spend some time over the Easter weekend to work on it.

Design Wall Monday - Snowbound.

Just as I am getting a handle on my Snowbound quilt it feels as though Spring as come. I have been playing around with the blocks to fit in my Snowmen embroidery and I think I have figured out what will fit.  I am going to put some extra flying geese between them. I have enjoyed working out the math to make what will hopefully be a fabulous quilt.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Today is a day for me to relax and to be grateful for my family. I so love being with my husband and children. We have had a week off together and I will miss being away from them tomorrow. My Slow Stitching Sunday is working on my binding for my Zigzag quilt which will become my son's. It is something I started years ago and I will be thrilled to have it finished. I have just signed up for Netflix and have started to watch Prison Break while doing the binding. My sister recommended it to me years ago and I am enjoying watching it.

Calendar Update

I have been working on a few projects lately when I realized on the weekend that I had not gotten any further on my calendar quilt other than the blocks. I started auditioning fabrics to be the borders for each of the tiny squares. It has been fun to see them come to life. I will be having some time off soon, so hopefully I can get this little quilt done. It will be the smallest I have made.

Snowbound

It looks like there is the possibility that we could be snowbound again. In the meantime I have been working on my Snowbound. It has great to be focusing on one project. I have the stars done and now I am working on the flying geese. They are going faster than I thought. I have been working on another quilt that has an option of using flying geese in the border and now I am more interested in doing so. When I am finished with this quilt, I will relax under it with a nice cup of Hot Chocolate!

Snowy Spirit

We have had a lot of extremely cold days lately and yesterday we received over 40 cm of snow. Monday was a holiday as well, so it gave me some time to work on a new quilt. I had bought a snow themed quilt kit last summer on sale. I was mostly buying it for the fabrics.

I had completed these a few years ago as well as one other, and never got around to finishing the rest of them. I had been looking for a way to finish them in a quilt.

When I went to my guild meeting this month there was someone there displaying a quilt similar to the pattern I had gotten with the kit except instead of flying geese there was log cabin blocks around the edges and she had a medallion block in the middle.I decided it would be great to have the snowmen blocks in the middle like a medallion and then create the blocks around it.

I have 11 out of the 16 blocks completed, and then need to decide what the next row will be. I may keep the flying geese blocks. A friend at the meeting challenged me to have quite a bit of it done before my next quilting guild meeting and I am hoping to accomplish that.

My Daughter's - Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday!

This is not my TGIFF. This is my daughter's. She made four quilts last year and is almost done her fifth. She is so very sweet.

She made a small wall hanging quilt for my guild's quilt show and then proceeded to make quilts for her younger cousins for Christmas.

She also made a lap quilt for herself with a backing of minkee fabric.. She did all of the sewing herself and picked the fabrics as well. Many of them came out of her stash, some new ones were bought and she borrowed some from me. Her philosophy is that she chooses simple patterns so that the fabrics shine through. I see many incredible sewing years ahead for her.  I am so proud of her and all she has accomplished!
