Do As I Say .... Not As I Do
I got the sashing done between the blocks for my Nine Patch and I am thrilled. I have gotten farther on this then I have in years. I am trying to figure out the rest of the quilt now so I gave it a break for a couple of days. Yesterday I had to go in to my LQS to confirm an upcoming retreat that I will be attending. In their bargain bin section, there were some great pink and black fat quarters.
I have been working on my pink and black quilt for a while now, and these were great to add for the quilt. When I got home, I could not resist trying one of them out as a block. The fabric is rows of variegated pink and I was not sure how it would look. Well, I really like how the Churn Dash is looking.
Looks like I have gotten myself back up to working on 3 projects, after I tried so hard to stick to 1! Well as they say, Do As I Say, Not As I Do!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Picnic
My entry for the Blogger's Quilt Festival is my Picnic quilt. It is a pattern from Scrap-Basket Sensations by Kim Brackett. It was made for my niece who graduated from High School and has gone off to University.
It was a fun quilt to make. When I asked my niece what her favourite colours are she told me Blue and Orange. I have never worked with that combination before, but as I started coming through my stash I realized that I had lots of those colours together. At some point I will make another quilt using the leftover pieces.
When I was at my LQS I found the perfect background and in the sale section too! I love the flowers with the orange and yellow centres.
I gave the quilt to my niece in the summer and she was so happy; much more than I ever expected. Quilting gives me so much. It provides stress-release, a chance to add some beauty to this world and I way to show my love for the people who mean so much to me.
The quilt is 48 X 60 and I am entering it in the Small Quilt Category.

Taking an Artistic Break
My Kaleidoscope quilt is coming along, but I need to fix a couple of things on it, so I decided to set it aside until I have a bit more time to focus on it. To keep me busy in the meantime, I brought out an oldie but a goodie, my nine patch squares. It was started many years ago as a quilt along with Crazy Mom Quilts. It has gone through my variations, before coming back around to the original quilt along. I realized that I did not need the quilt to be so big, so when I worked out the dimensions I realized that I only needed 6 more nine patches. I got those done last weekend, played around with the design and have started sewing the sashing together. This is one I will be very happy to have finished.

Putting It All Together
I joined up with the Friday Night Sew-In and spent my time starting to sew my rows for Kaleidoscope quilt together. I had some issues with the blocks because I was using two different patterns at the same time and some of the measurements were not right. I planned out a new design using my EQ6 and I like it even better! I can't wait until all the rows are done!

Trying to Be
I have been trying to be a one woman quilter. I had decided a while ago to try to focus on one project at a time, and unless something came up like needing more fabric or needing to suddenly make a quilt for someone, work on the quilt until it becomes a quilt top. It worked for Autumn Moons, and it has worked really well so far with my Kaleidoscope quilt.
I have all the blocks done now and just need to sew them together and add the border. I must say I am quite enjoying working on one project done at a time. I have been having more fun and feeling less stressed!
