Giveaway Day!

Hi Everyone,

I am participating in the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. Here is what I am giving away.

To have a chance to win these patterns, I have a question that needs to be answered. I enjoy watching TV shows on DVD while I quilt. So far, I have watched House and am now working through Lost. What I need from you is a recommendation for my next series to watch, and it does not have to be a show still on TV. I will keep my giveaway open until 4:00 pm EST on Thursday May 20th, and will be drawing the winner randomly. I will contact the winner and international entries are welcome, as well as my fellow Canadians! Good luck with mine and all the other giveaways!

Fun stuff Michelle! Monk for sure - LOVE LOVE that series. It just ended on TV, you'll have 8 seasons worth to watch.

If you like Sci Fi then Farscape would be a great show for you to watch. The absolute best love story ever. There are 4 seasons and a 4 hour mini series. It was filmed in Australia, although the lead is from North Carolina. Brian Henson (son of Jim Henson) is the producer and Rockne S. O'Bannon created the series. By it being filmed in Australia they didn't have restrictions on them. They pushed the limits and made a wonderful show.

You are going to think me to be crazy but I love the Amazing Race and Survivor...those are fun to watch straight through.

Thanks for your wonderful giveaway!

Deanna said...

I don't really watch TV, so I don't have much of a suggestion that way. But, I read a lot while I quilt (audio books) and the Number One Ladies Detective Agency series is a very good one. There are now, I think, 10 books. One was made into a movie, so maybe you would like it.

Sara said...

I don't watch much tv, and the only tv on dvd I've watched is The Dukes Of Hazzard.

gretamargreta said...

lie to me is a great series to watch in the background. its also an interesting show.

Jessica Christensen said...

I love Veronica Mars. You can watch it on thewb(dot)com or buy the DVDs. It's unfortunately not on TV anymore. Also love Gilmore Girls -- same drill.

Anya said...

One of my all-time favorites is Northern Exposure. Thanks for the chance!

Katie Bishop said...

I am SO into TV. Is is a real problem. But, it is also how I unwind. So I would reccomend Psych, which is about a fake psychic detective show. Very funny, but still a mystery of sorts. Or if you want something more drama, I would suggest the Good Wife which is on tv now.

Monika said...

That´s fun - I like to watch series too while sewing... at the moment I´m watching "private practise" - another doctor version but nice!

That Hot Cross pattern is super cute! Thanks for offering a giveaway!

The only TV shows I have watched on DVD are Las Vegas, Friends and The OC!! Mostly mindless television but entertaining none-the-less!

Julianne said...

How about Dark Shadows? It was one of those shows that I was too young to watch when it was on and it's on my netflix list to get to one day. With all the vampire craze going on it might be fun! Or Twin Peaks. That's one I've been trying to get around to.

Fingers crossed!!

I'm old school, but I love Little House on the Prairie or the George Burns and Gracie Allen shows.

I've been watching "Dead Like Me" and finding it surprisingly compelling. It's a little (OK a lot) offbeat, but funny and endearing too.

The One and Only said...

Last night I just finished watching the season finale of Brothers and Sisters. Since I'm an only child, I loved watching the interworkings of a larger family!

NCIS is what I would recommend - do you get that in Canada? If not, any Law and Order is great! Thanks for participating in Giveaway Day!

I recommend Lark Rise to Canadleford (if you like BBC costume dramas)! It's what I've been watching while getting ready for Quilt Market and all of the episodes are available on YouTube.

I don't watch much television while sewing because I'm easily distracted I guess. I usually have either radio or tv on but then it fades into the background and half the time I miss what was said.
I've got such a regular line up of tv shows that we DVR so we can watch them back to back. Survivor, Desperate Housewives, Castle, The Office to name a few.

I wasn't really into ER when it was on the air, but I have LOVED watching it in the series. I may even have to name my next child Carter!

Hi!
I love House too! I'm a fan of Grey'a Anatomy and Private Practice but if you don't like hospitals you can watch Brothers and Sisters!
Nice patterns!

Alissa said...

Oh my gosh, you need to watch MI-5 (Spooks in the UK) on DVD. It's a great show. Lost is my favorite, but MI-5 is a close second. And if you're into random goofiness, Spaced and the new Doctor Who are both great and fun.

Deb said...

lots of good suggestions but I myself loved the series Big Love.
It is an american family but with a twist they are poligamists. Married to 3 women and trying to live outside their compound...not an easy task.

Doina said...

Great giveaway! Please count me in! Most times I look at political news.

Skooks said...

If you haven't seen it and want to see some butt kicking check out Alias. I got mad entrenched it a few years ago on DVD.

Oh, and I know it's about high schoolers, but Glee is really quite funny.

Julia Gabriel said...

I love CHUCK!!!! SO funny.

no4daughter said...

How about Project Runway so you can watch sewing while sewing.

Julie S said...

My daughter and I are watching the old Star Trek Deep Space Nine dvds. It is her first time seeing them; I remember watching the first few seasons, but then it got too political and not enough relational and I quit watching.

Mary-Kay said...

I watch way too much tv and one of my favourite series is The Good Wife. It's still on but I don't know if it's on DVD yet. I also watch Law and Order and I hear that the original one is being cancelled after 20 seasons. Nice giveaway!

Unknown said...

I would watch the entire collection of I Love Lucy. Classic comedy! But it seems that isn't your thing. You might like "Flame Trees of Thicka." I got the series through Netflix. It's not too long, but it's interesting, set in Africa, with some laughs, drama, and action.

Jenny said...

I liked Sex in the City...no brainer, fluffy stuff you can miss parts of while machine is sewing! thanks for a chance.

Gnomemade said...

I love Gilmore Girls - but based on what else you're watching - I'd suggest Fringe!

Tracy said...

I like Northern Exposure on DVD. Currently on tv, I like the new series on FX called Justified. But it is in it's first season. If you like a REALLY good series that is entirely too short, watch Firefly. It's amazing, very short, and it has a movie to tie up loose ends called Serenity.

merlinthecat said...

What a great prize! I love watching tv on dvd. Have you watched dexter? it's a pretty good show.

RaisinCookies said...

One of my favourite shows is Doctor Who. Have you seen any of the new series? If not, you have 4 seasons and a few specials to catch up on before you reach the current Doctor.

Oooh, and Chuck! Hilarious wannabe spy show, now on its second season, so you'll have plenty to watch before you catch up on that one, too.

As for shows that are no longer on air, one of the best is Freaks and Geeks. It only lasted 13 episodes or so, but it's fantastically acted and written. Totally believable teenage life in comparison to today's current offerings. ;) I've been out of highschool for a long time, but it's very watchable even so.

Hope that helps!

Mary Lou said...

There are lots of good shows and many have already been mentioned, but a few more of my favorites:
Bones, Alias, Firefly, Arrested Development, Big Bang Theory

Dana Gaffney said...

My daughter and I do the same thing on "craft day". We are on the X-Files, you may want to try them.

leonoor said...

I love to watch criminal minds while i am busy.. Nice regards

Kerri K said...

I have been dying to get the thirtysomething series on DVD. My husband never watched them, so I would force him to do it! I am also waiting on China Beach to be released... taking them forever!

Susan said...

I'm a little conservative and don't watch a lot of the current popular shows, so my suggestion is one of my and my daughter's favorite shows, Road To Avonlea.

Laree said...

It would be super fast to go through, but I can't recomend Pushing Daisies enough. So funny! This is one I really wish hadn't been cancled!

Mrs. Jackie Sue said...

Too fun, I so wish I could do that but I am usually watching three kids! LOL I would suggest, since you asked... Everybody Loves Raymond or Absolutely Fabulous! I bet you are enjoying these replies! great question! Hope to win! *hugs*

Foyles War...one of my favorites!

Lena said...

I go with Monk, to funny.

Nanette Merrill said...

depends on what you like, I like big dramas but I hate swearing. Hate. However, I made a big exception for the 5 seasons of HBO "The WIre" because my dad was an inner city cop near Philadelphia and this series takes place nearby that in Baltimore. It made me realize what my dad had to go through.

Nanette Merrill said...

Oh and I wanted to say there is soo much swearing in this that it is sickening. But I made an exception going into it knowing that I was going to watch a series that was real and not a cookie cutter story that ended at the end of an hour.

~Michelle~ said...

Battlestar Galactica!

Lee D said...

If you like to laugh out loud then I recommend Big Bang Theory. Not a lot of shows make me lol but this one sure does. For mysteries I like Criminal Minds.

I'll probably have to wait until next winter for those - too nice out to watch tv now.

I'd recommend House, but you already say you watch that... We enjoyed Heroes and the first season of Weeds (but thought it got rapidly worse after the first season).

i think this may 17 give away is perfect....for my BD!!

i love (and have) the whole "reba" series. it's a series i can watch over and over.... and doesn't require that your eyes be glued to the tube - so you can quilt while you "watch".

hello!
i live in Portugal and watch lots of tv series, but i think with a few months of delay, so i'll probably say something that you have already seen:

my favourites are 24, dexter, alias, desperate housewives, grey's anatomy and brothers and sisters. however, because crime and hospital series may be harder to follow while doing something else, i would recommend only brothers and sisters or desperate housewives.

also, i like to watch old series. recently i've found in dvd all the "north and south" episodes, with patrick swayze and i really love it, because i love history.

I'm not the biggest tv watcher, but I do love the office and intervention. One to make you laugh and one to make you cry. :)
Thanks for the giveaway!

Ooh thanks for an awesome giveaway!
I also love to watch TV shows while I sew! I have watched Lost {too many times to truthfully acknowledge} and also am really really into House this season! So since we seem to have similar taste, I can only recommend my other favourites:
How I Met Your Mother (so funny, and a lot of 'Canada jokes' which you might like);
30 Rock (takes a bit to get into but so worth it cos it's hilarious);
and V and Flash Forward, but not so much..both are getting a little silly.
I also watch Top Gear but that's a little random.
Hope you're having a nice day!

I love Desperate Housewives, cheesy as it can be - it's totally addicting, and I love "watching" it while I'm working on something with my hands. :)

I don't know anything about those kind of shows but my all-time favorite from the early to mid 90's was Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman.
