Couldn't resist

Yes, I did end up cutting into my Wiscasset charm packs and started playing with them. I happened to see this pattern and then it reminded me of a Charm Square quilt that Myra had made. I cut and sewed, then played around with them.

My husband says he likes the zigzag one the best. It was fun to play with fresh fabric, though I am still determined to get as many UFO as possible into quilt tops.

Fabric Friday

I have been doing bits and pieces of quilting here and there, but I have been sick for a week so I feel behind in everything, home, work and quilting included. I went camping last weekend with my family and we all came home sick with colds. We stayed overnight at my mother-in-law's on the way to the camp since it was quite a ways away from us. While there she gave me a beautiful soft denim jacket with red and white piping. Blue and red are one of my favourite colour combinations and I decided right then that I wanted to make a blue and red quilt. The next morning we left and as we were driving toward the camp I realized that we would be going right past the quilt store that I had visited on our summer vacation. I had bought 1/2 metre of aqua fabric there and it turned out to be the perfect shade to go with my red and aqua quilt, so I used it as the inner border. I did not have enough fabric to use it for the binding, so we stopped and and I got some more of it. While looking around the store, I noticed some charm packs. Wiscasset, red, blue and tan. It was a bit of an eerie feeling when I had just decided to buy some beautiful red and blue fabric. I bought all 4 charm packs that they had and of course I want to make a quilt with it right away. I think I will hold off until I have my Christmas quilting organized.

Butterfly Blooms Design Wall

I decided to change my UFO projects around. I am making this quilt for my niece and want to have it done for Christmas. I had all of the individual pieces sewn, so all I needed to do was sew them into blocks. It is the Butterfly Blooms pattern by Cozy Quilts. This is the first time I have worked with black as a background and I definitely like it more than I thought I would. I also found the perfect border fabric for it and I am excited to see what it will look like when it is all put together. Check out what others are doing for Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times.

August UFO top done

Red/Aqua Swap Quilt

My August UFO top is done! Now that it is all put together I like it so much better than when it was individual squares. My least favourite thing is borders. It has been awhile since I have put big borders on a quilt. For me, with a quilt with so much going on in the middle I wanted a calmer border and I think the red/aqua work well with it. My September UFO is my Snowmen applique quilt. It is has been awhile since I did applique and I am looking forward to working on it. Check out other UFO finishes at Patchwork Times.
