Dresden Plate Quilt

Well, my namesake quilt was finally finished in May. The Dresden Plate blocks is one of the first blocks I learned to make when I started quilting. It has been 10 years in the making. I belonged to a group called Bee Beautiful in 2010 and when it was my month I chose the Dresden Plate and beautiful Art Gallery fabrics by Patricia Bravo. The group was wonderful and I learned so much each month with all of the different blocks, many which I had never tried before. I am so happy that it is completed. It was quilted by Tammy Spencer.

I had this cute backing which reminded me of Dresden Plates and the binding was bought by my daughter last year as a Mother's Day gift. She knew I was working on a few rainbow quilts and decided to have binding to match. She also got me another one, with reds and darker stripes.

I am so grateful to all the women and my daughter who helped make this quilt a reality.

Slow Sunday Stitching - Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

For my Slow Sunday Stitching I decided to work on my son's birth notice, and let's just say he is well past his first decade. I made ones for all of my nieces and nephews but somehow never finished them for my own children, so today seemed like a good time to work on it.

I also started getting my binding ready for my Dresden Plate quilt. My daughter had bought me the binding fabric last year for Mother's Day because she knew stripes make good bindings.  I am very fortunate to have two wonderful children.

Exciting Days

I have had a few exciting quilting days and I have not had to do any of the work! Saturday I went to a beautiful quilt guild show. Unfortunately, my memory stick got left in my computer at home.The quilts were gorgeous and there were great vendors too. Just for a lark, I decided to see if I could find an EZ Easy Dresden Ruler. I had been looking for one locally 2 years ago, when I was in the Bee Beautiful Bee, but couldn't find one so I used another ruler instead. At one of the booths, they had one hanging on a rack all by itself. I was so excited. I just found out yesterday too that there is an EZ Dresden Challenge starting June 1. There are some amazing prizes to be won!

The guild had a really neat door prize. They had collected all the spools the guild had used for a year, put them into a huge raffle cage and had you guess the number. I guessed my daughter's favourite number and on Sunday evening I got a call to say I had won the basket. I have no idea what is in the basket because I was doing it to keep my kids busy.

Yesterday when I got home, I had the most beautiful parcel package I had ever seen.

 

 It was the swap quilt from Cheryl of Polka Dots & Rick Rack. The quilt is stunning.

 

She also had made me this really cool journal and a mug rug. It will go perfectly with my Jelly Roll Swap quilt once it is done. I can sip hot chocolate put my mug on my mug rug, lie under the quilt and watch a movie.





The winner of my Sew Mama Sew Giveaway is  #14, Jennie P. who would love to visit Hogwarts. I read all of the amazing places everyone would like to visit, and I have to say I now have quite a bit more added to my list.

Frustration

 

Who knew the look of frustration could look so good? Tuesday, I was absolutely frustrated with my Doll Quilt. I had some nice compliments on what I was working on, but I was not happy with it. I kept changing my mind all weekend about what I wanted which is part of the reason I worked on my Love Is instead. Tuesday night, I decided I had enough, and started something completely different. I went to my first love, the Dresden Plate. Once I had it sewn together, I put it on my turquoise Kona cotton and an AHA moment happened. I was reminded of a school trip I had taken this year to an art museum with my daughter. One of the things that was talked about was positive versus negative space. The children got to paint 2 pictures using this technique. I started thinking about using the turquoise as the background, and everything fell into place, I hope. I started working again on my Doll Quilt this morning, and I am thrilled so far. The Dresden Plate, I have set aside and will use it for something else.

WIP Wednesday

 

This is the first time I have put up my Dresden Plates from my Bee Beautiful group. I knew if I took them all out I would want to do it right away. I have one more block to make and then I am going to add some colourful sashing. The B Side

Well, it has been a while since I have been sick for such a long period of time. You forget how draining it can be. I have been sick for a couple of weeks but am starting to feel better today. It came at an inopportune time, not that there is ever a good time but October is my month for my Bee Beautiful group. I was so upset about being behind that I felt like giving up my month. I got my packages in the mail today, and I am so happy. Here is what my incredible group of women are going to be making for me:

I chose the Dresden Plate block for my members to make.The Dresden Plate is one of the first blocks that I sewed and quilted as a wall hanging many, many years ago. It was how I came up with my name for my blog. I have never actually made a Dresden Plate quilt though, so I am so thrilled to be having one!
