My Daughter's - Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday!

This is not my TGIFF. This is my daughter's. She made four quilts last year and is almost done her fifth. She is so very sweet.

She made a small wall hanging quilt for my guild's quilt show and then proceeded to make quilts for her younger cousins for Christmas.

She also made a lap quilt for herself with a backing of minkee fabric.. She did all of the sewing herself and picked the fabrics as well. Many of them came out of her stash, some new ones were bought and she borrowed some from me. Her philosophy is that she chooses simple patterns so that the fabrics shine through. I see many incredible sewing years ahead for her.  I am so proud of her and all she has accomplished!

Row by Row

Right now, in my WIP I am working on the rows. I have gotten the first couple of rows on each of these quilts done.

I started putting together the snowman quilt before Christmas but stopped because I was short a few fork pins. I have been using them for a few years now, and find them very helpful when matching up seams. I asked Santa for some more and ended up getting 3 packages of them. I will now happily get back to this quilt now that we have snow.

I have also started sewing the rows of my Picnic quilt together and as I thought I am liking it better now.

Monday Making - Sweet gifts

I made this cathedral window pincushion for my daughter. It is the first time I have tried making a cathedral window, and the first time I used crushed walnuts in a pincushion. I used this pattern to make the pincushion and I found it very easy to follow.

My daughter has become quite the quilter. She attended my quilt guild meeting last week to show off a quilt she had made for herself. She has another one almost done and plans to present it as well to my guild.

In another quickly done projects, I made this microwave bowl for my roommate from my quilting retreat. She showed us how to make these really cute sheep at the retreat and when I saw this fabric I immediately thought of her. I made quite a few microwave bowls for Christmas for family and friends, but of course I have not yet made one for myself!

One Word

I have decided to start again with my One Word Challenge and have chosen the word Faith. I was thinking over the holidays, about what has been lacking in me, and I realize that it is Faith. I have lost my faith over the past year in myself and the world around me. I am hoping to have more of it in my life and in my quilting.

Design Wall Monday - Definitely too cold for a Picnic!

I finished the last of my 80 blocks for my Picnic quilt over the holidays and I got the first two rows sewn together yesterday. It is definitely too cold here to have picnic right now.  At Christmas time we were wearing our spring jackets and now we are wearing our winter parkas.

I feel that this is a quilt that I will like better when it is finished. It felt like it took forever to get the blocks done and yet the first two rows when together so quickly. I find it difficult sometimes when working with a scrappy quilt to ensure that it is scrappy enough. I used quite a bit of fabrics from my stash but also bought some more in the blue/orange colour scheme. I have not tried this colour scheme before and I must say that I do like it.

Happy New Year! - The Mystery is over!

If I had to choose one of my favourite things to do on New Year's Eve it would be to watch a movie with my dh and get to finish a quilt. That is what I got to do last night. I finished binding my Mountain Mystery quilt. Yes the mystery is solved and the Butler did not do it !It was definitely an uphill climb to get this done including spending months to find a backing only to end up finding it at one of my LQS. I am so very happy that is finished and so very happy that 2015 is over. I am looking forward to the year ahead.
