Binding - Slow Stitching Sunday

After working on the binding for the Friday Nigt Sew-In, I am spending my Sunday hand stitching the binding for the quilt my daughter made. I find this part of the quilting to be very relaxing, especially for one I have not made. I get to sit, stitch and admire all the work and time she has put into this quilt made for a friend.

Binding - Friday Night Sew-In

I spent my Friday Night Sew-In organizing and cutting the binding for the quilt my daughter made. I love the backing fabric she chose and we decided to use it as the binding for the quilt as it brings all the colours together. My daughter has made this pattern a few times for quilts for others and she asked me to make one for her using the same pattern. We sent off both quilts to the quilter at the same time and the quilter thought my daughter had made both of them. I am not surprised! She is a very talented quilter! I have the next quilt she is going to make cut out. She is excellent at choosing fabrics and I am eager to see it come together.

Interlocking Chains

I started on another quilt last week. This quilt is for someone special in my children's lives. Her favourite colours are black and white. I have never worked in just these colours before and I have to say that I love them. They have spark and vibrancy. My children are going to help me sew it, but I have to admit I got carried away and did a bunch more squares than planned. I love making quilts for others for this very reason. I never thought blue and orange were so beautiful until I made my niece's quilt and now I am in love with black and white. I would love to make this quilt for myself. Once again quilting has given me so much more than I give away.

Stars Can't Shine

Stars can't shine with without darkness is a quote my daughter recently introduced me too, and I am finding it true with this quilt. It is coming together quicker than I expected. I have all the nine patches done and have started working on the star blocks. The stars points are all light but I think my lights are lighter than the pattern so I may change them to something darker.

One Word

In continuing the One Word Challenge I hope to have more peace this year. More peace in myself and with those around me. I hope to enjoy the quilting process more, where I have been, where I am going and to make peace with some items not yet finished.

When looking for images of Peace I found this quote by John Lennon. I found it to be so appropriate. I want to make peace, be peace and give peace to my loved ones this year. Hopefully my quilts and sewn items will bring that to others.

2016 Year in Review

2016 was a quieter but a good year in terms of quilting. The projects I chose to start I decided to focus on and get done right away. I also spent quite a bit of time quilting with my children. My son got a quilt finished and my daughter completed two. I reorganized my sewing room now so that there is room for a second sewing table, and machine as well as all of their fabric. I also got a new ironing board. I am happy with what I got accomplished and I am looking forward to the quilts of 2017!
