I am so excited. It is time for the Sew, Mama, Sew! May Giveaway Day. I am giving away 4 fat quarters from the Dick and Jane fabric line, 2 tablerunner patterns and 2 Dresden plate notecards. I had thought a lot about what question to ask you for the giveaway and then on Sunday my daughter asked me "Why do you quilt so much?" My quick answer to her was that I like keeping people warm and I can't sleep with everybody. (My daughter is 4 and likes to sleep with me.) So this is what you need to do to enter the giveaway.
1) Tell me where you are from.
2) Tell me why you quilt so much?
3) The giveaway is open until May 31st at 11:59 pm EST. I will be drawing the name randomly on June 1, when the winner will be announced. I will ship internationally and will contact the winner to get his/her address on June 1st.
That's it! I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy all of the giveaways.

1 – 200 of 324 Newer› Newest»Thank you for such generosity. The fabrics are lovely. Why do I quilt--because it satisfies my creative urge and allows me to live among beautiful colours and fabrics. Where am I from--a farm outside of Dunham, a small town in Quebec, Canada.
Wow! What a great giveaway!! I'm from Kingston, Ontario. I quilt so much because it keeps me happy! It's a way to relax and be creative. I can share it with others and they usually love it. It's very rewarding.
Beautiful things to 'give away'! My kids ask me why I quilt too. I like being able to give the goodness of homemade things to friends and relatives. I love the way you can make something out of practically nothing and it is beautiful in the end. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I am from MA and I quilt/sew so much because it helps me keep sane and busy so that the everyday stressed of raising two kids and an impending delivery of the 3rd don't get to me as much!
Thank you for the giveaway! I'm living in Michigan and I quilt because it gives me satisfaction to make something from start to finish.
What an awesome giveaway!
I'm from Houston, TX. I love to quilt because it takes away stress. I love creating order and doing the math. Plus, my kids love to watch.
I have just started quilted and am loving it.
Love those fabrics and would love to be in the running for the giveaway please.
i'm from Connecticut, USA. i honestly don't know why i like to quilt so much! I love the fabrics and making patchwork so i guess that's why.

Hi, I am from Wisconsin. Unfortunately I am just a beginner, so haven't really done much quilting, but I have definitely caught the bug! :)
Oh, yum. I love the giveaway! I love quilting because quilts are a functional craft -- I hate useless items that just sit around and collect dust. I also love the intersection between others' design and your own!
Hi Michelle! I'm from Utah and I quilt because it's my therapy!! Thanks for sharing :)
I love the question and I've been thinking a lot about this my self. I have a one year old and feel a little guilty that I can't wait until nap time to be creative. RIght now I quilt so much as a release. To feel creative and productive.
I am from Winnipeg Manitoba and I haven't begun to quilt yet, though I'm sure I'd quilt so much because who doesn't love having a handmade quilt on their bed?
Beautiful fabrics! I enjoy quilting for the finished project. I like seeing what I made and letting others enjoy it!
I quilt as a form of therapy. It's what keeps me sane! There's something very soothing about mindless sewing/quilting. Oh, and I'm from Virginia.
Can non-quilters comment? I don't quilt but I sew because I like to see what I can create to make others happy.

I quilt for a similar reason as you. I like to keep everyone warm. I like to bring smiles to the people I make quilts for. A handmade quilt shows them that they are important enough for someone to take their time to make them a special gift.
Wow! What a lovely package you have put together!
I am from Washington State. I have started quilting because I love combining fabrics. It is exhilirating to find just the right mix... how the colors come together affects one's mood. either quiet and restful or playful or however I am feeling when I choose the fabrics.
I'm from Ottawa.
One of the main reasons I quilt so much/knit so much/sew so much is that so many people are so impressed that someone so young is capable of making things and being part of a rich, dying history.
i love the dick and jane fabrics! i am from utah. i actually don't quilt as much as i would love to because i have 3 boys under 4! i love to sew and quilt though because i love creating things that my children will love now and hopefully later as well.
Love the giveaway package! I am from Napanee, Ontario. I don't quilt, but I really want to learn how to.
Hello there! I hail from the great state of Minnesota, and why do I quilt so much? Well, I quilt quite a bit because I have this crazy creativity that is all bottled up and must come out somehow! Plus, it is something that my mom and I enjoy doing together, and it's just great fun! I am so excited about your giveaway, because I've always wanted to make a Dresden Plate quilt! Thanks for the chance to win these great items!
These are such lovely fabrics. I am in Arlington, VA (outside DC) and I don't quilt as much as I knit, but I do both because they keep me calm and happy!
I am from all over, have lived in NJ for 1 year next week. I quilt so much because it's a great hobby to have when you move a lot (doesn't require company but company makes it more fun!) and it's a great way to let friends know you care although you're far away. Those fabrics would be great for the 2 baby quilts I've got to make for friends from our last stay in Texas!
I am from the state of Indiana, USA. I am a fairly new quilter and I enjoy it because there are so many different ways to make a fabric shine with all the different quilt blocks out there. I also love how any quilt block can take on so many different looks depending on the fabric used or by just turning it. I love the answer you gave your daughter!
I quilt because I love the look and feel of a finished quilt (not that I have any large ones yet!), and I love the idea of far off grandchildren wrapping up in them, too. I like taking little bits and making them into something beautiful, too.
I am from Utah and I quilt because I love creating beauty within my home without breaking the bank. It's really fulfilling to finish a project too, and think, "I made that!!"
I actually haven't sewn a quilt yet, but I'm hoping to start on my first this summer.
I'm addicted to quilting. I like fabrics and I like being creative. I live in Belgium in Europe.
Oh, I LOVE that Dick & Jane fabric!! I have now fewer than 5 quilts started. I just need the courage to put them togther! My goal is to have a handmade quilt on every bed.
josilva3(at)yahoo(dot)com
I just started quilting about 9 months ago. I've fallen in love with quilting and with fabric. It satisfies my need to be creative.
I'm from Arkansas.
Thanks for a chance to win.
Hello from Toronto. I quilt because at first I wanted to use up the fabric that I had from sewing for the family. Now I quilt because I love to sew and try out new variations of patterns. I hand quilt so I love the patterns it brings out.
I'm from the UK, why do I quilt so much? I just love to make things, basically. But quilting also means I get to make something both beautiful and practical and with so many fabrics and endless designs, it's an obsession I'm sure I'll never tire of.
I'm from Singapore. I don't quilt, because in Singapore you don't really need a quilt. However, I'm preparing to sew an I-Spy blanket for my girl, so that she can use it for cooler nights.
I live in Pittsboro, North Carolina, USA. I have made exactly one bed sized quilt but many, many baby quilts. My Grandma used to quilt and always made a baby quilt for each grand and great grand child. I am trying to continue the tradition.
Im from Michigan and never have enough time to quilt but love seeingmy boys get excited when I make them something they can sleep in...Ive been eyeing that fabric for some time! Great giveaway!

Heather
It's a lovely giveaway!
I have to cofess that I don't quilt yet, but I love to sew.
It's addictive in the good sense.
I like to make things for other people, chosing the right fabric and pattern for everyone. I feel very creative and I love to see that my hands can do nice stuff!
I quilt to stay sane. It's my little bit of time all for myself.
Lovely giveaway! I am from Michigan, near the thumb (it's so nice to carry around our own map!! lol) I quilt, embroider, sew...so much because it is theraputic for me. My brain will actually rest instead of running at a million miles an hour! It's relaxing for me.
I'm originally from Idaho. Now I'm in PA. I don't quilt soo much yet but those fabrics would make a very cute play quilt.
I currently live in New Orleans, LA... but have only been here 2 months so far, and am not sure if I can say that I'm "from" here yet. I actually haven't made a single quilt yet, I recently picked up sewing, and have now been looking at quilts and am just trying to get the courage to try. I do all these handmade things, because I like the warmth and character that they add to a home.
I'm in Beautiful British Columbia and love beautiful fabric and putting them together in a quilt and being able to see my kids enjoying them every day brings a smile to my face.
I am from Chowchilla, California USA, right smack in the center of the state.
I am new to quilting, but I would say because is because I love fabrics. Quilting gives you a chance to work with so many different fabrics in one project. Very satisfying.
Such beautiful patterns! Small is more my size. I like to quilt because beautiful fabrics get lonely sitting on bolts. Displaying something like a wall-hanging or table runner makes me feel happy. Especially if it is in someone else's house.
I'm in Sunnyvale, CA. I like to quilt because it's fun to put together lots of different fabrics to make a colorful project! And I like to keep my family warm. I love to see the kids wrapped up in my creations.
I love the Dick and Jane collection! I'm from Portland, OR and I don't actually quilt. I make kid's clothes, but I'm hoping to make a quilted picnic blanket for my family next month. Thanks for the opportunity!

I quilt to have an outlet - after quitting my career to SAH with my three younguns - I still like completing projects. I am just finishing my second quilt. Not speedy but not too bad for 6 months, right?

What a great giveaway Michelle! I'm from Edmonton, Alberta...and escited to see so many familiar Canadian cities represented in your comments. Why do I quilt so much? Because I need an excuse to surround myself with so many of the adorable fabrics out there and even more so because I can turn that obsession with fabrics into something that others can enjoy as well.
Cheers~
I have been eyeing the Dick and Jane fabric for a while. If I win, I'll finally get to use some! Yay! I'm from Georgia. I quilt because I like the feeling of success at creating something beautiful and useful.
Hiya. I'm from London, England. I want to make a quilt for my granny, who's moving into a retirement home this winter. She used to make me quilts when I was young and I'd like to say thanks to her this way.

I'm from Louisville, KY. I quilt so much, because I love patterns and fabric designs and it's the only way I can justify buying tons and tons of gingham.
Thanks for the giveaway! You can reach me at http://kitknitty.com.
I'm in Colorado, but I grew up in the East. I love to quilt but without a pattern, because I like to 'make it up' as I go. I'm not adverse to patterns, I just have more fun without them. My husband usually likes to help me while we watch a movie - he'll cut while I'll sew and I can make them up pretty fast.
rae_sunshine4 (at) yahoo (dot) com

Love those fabrics! I'm from the San Francisco bay area. I love quilting and sewing. I get a lot of satisfaction from the entire process. And I love fabric!
I don't quilt nearly as much as I would like, but I love the excitement of planning and creating something beautiful and useful.
Ha, I wish I could say "I quilt so much". Really, I don't. I only just got started quilting but have fallen in love with sewing all over since trying my hand at quilting. The reasons... It started with wanting to create warm loving protective things for my daughters to cuddle up with now and hopefully still twenty years from now. But what got me hooked is the fact that there are literally endless options in quilting. It feels like there are no limits to one's creativity and that just amazed me. It's like going on a wild exciting ride with textures, colors, shapes and lotsandlots of good loving thoughts. Sigh. I love quilting. :)
Oh, and I'm from Wiesbaden, a city in central Germany. ;)

What a wonderful giveaway! I'm from Bellevue, Wa and I don't know why I quilt. From a very young age I loved the idea of 'creating' something, and I've always been obsessed with keeping warm and snuggly blankets.... so I guess it was only a matter of time before I became a quilter!
Cheers,
Dionned
I'm from a town about 35 miles out of Boston, MA. I don't quilt, but I want to learn (hopefully that doesn't disqualify me?). For now, I use quilting fabrics to make cute clothes for my kids and these fat quarters would be perfect. And maybe I could get started quilting with your tablerunner patterns?

What I love about quilting is a) how beautiful and tactile it is, b) how quickly you can see progress and c) the satisfaction you get when it's finished and you've taken it out of the dryer and get to stroke it's soft quilty texture! Okay, I promise I'm not as weird as I sound!

I'm from Canton, GA (far northern suburbs of Atlanta).
I quilt so much because it's in my blood!!! The "need to create" gene was passed down to me through many generations. It's also a wonderful satisfaction to be creative, put work into something that will last, and then show love by sharing the end result with its recipient. What's not to love?
1) I am from SLC, Utah
2) I am sad to say that I have only quilted one item in my life. However, I do love to sew other things. Dresses for my baby girl are my current favorite. I just love that I can create something wonderful out of a rectangle of fabric.

Oh man, thats a great gift! I love to quilt because I love the old ones that have many stories to tell. Like the ones that are made out of old clothes, or flour sacks. I think Quilts should share their story with every generation that gets to love on them. And as much as I love looking at quilts, I make my quilts to be used and loved the threads. Especially the ones with so many hours put into them. They need the most snuggle time ;)

I am new to quilting, just started in 2008. BUT I have been sewing since I was a little kid. My mom taught me and she and I started cutting out little squares from her fabric collection for "Our" quilt. We never actually got very far, but I always remember going into fabric stores with her and how much fun it was to get excited over the colors and designs...I miss my mom and now every project I start I remember those moments in the craft and fabric stores. I am from Denver, PA (Lancaster County...so I am in the epicenter of quilting)
I wish I could do more.

I am from Australia ;-)
From Anaheim, CA very close to Disneyland. I quilt because there's something comforting about snuggling under a handmade blanket, even in sunny southern California!
I'm from Malaysia. I love the way how a quilt looks like - from the large number of fabrics that can go together to make something beautiful to the crinkly look and feeling of the final quilting.
I am posting from Fröndenberg in Germany - a very very small town. Why I quilt so much ? Our house is still very empty and all walls are just "white" for now. So still a lot to fill with colorfull quilts to make it become our home.
I am from Israel. Actually, I wish I could quilt more than I do, as being a stay at home mom doesn't let me as much free time as I wish. Please count me in! Thank you so much for your generosity! samjerus[at]yahoo.com

Oh, right, um, I am from Queensland, Australia. I love to quilt because it is new and challening for me and I love that my Mother is teaching me! I grew up watching her sew and create and it rubbed off on to me. I also have her love of fabric! :)
I live in rural NC. Quiliting is just a way of life for me. I've been doing it for 50 years now. It is such a great way to spend your day.
I live in Atlanta, GA and have just discovered the joy of quilting. I love the process of quilting and the excitement as it's all pieced together and quilted. Quilts are an art form.
Greetings from New Jersey, USA. I love to quilt because I think you can make it so personal to the recipient. I love that you can choose colors, patterns and designs that fit the person, making each one unique to the the recipient.

Love those Dick and Jane fabrics! I must admit, I have yet to finish my first quilt (just started sewing in the last four months) although I have finished one small top and would like to do more. I guess just because they look so beautiful!
I guess I sew so much because it makes me feel powerful to create something. thansk for your giveaway.
I am from Michigan. Unfortunately I don't quilt "so much" so I will answer why I DON'T quilt so much... I have a 15 month old, we bought our house last June and since it is finally spring we are working really hard on fixing it up, we are planting a huge garden with my parents, and I do a lot of mowing and stuff at my parent's house to help them out! I can't wait until I get more time to sew and quilt!
I forgot to say where I was from in the last comment :)
I'm from Ottawa, ON, and I quilt because it's relaxing, creative, and I get something beautiful at the end. Also, I have this need to do something with my hands.
Thanks for the giveaway. I'm from Arkansas and I quilt so much because it keeps me from watching so much TV. It also keeps from working out.

Hello!
I am from Helensburgh, NSW, Australia!
I quilt because I like the journey. I like choosing fabrics and deciding on a pattern. I like laying it all out and cutting it into neat bits. I love sewing it all together and pressing it and then sewing it all together again!
Thanks
Rene
Very generous. Love that Dick and Jane fabric. I'm from GA and have never finished a quilt - started two. I have finished tons of sewing projects, however!
I love the creativity and the fact I am doing my own thing. I have wonderful quilting friends. I love the techniques, the machines, the fabrics, the patterns. I love it period!!!!
I have been doing it for years and years.
I live in NS.

Let's see, I'm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I quilt because it keeps my hands busy. I just can't sit I always need to be doing something, and this is a way to stay busy and be creative! Secondly I ran out of Dick and Jane cause I evidently didn't buy enough so this is the perfect giveaway for me!
Hi I'm from Lansing MI and I haven't quilted anything (I just started to sew) but i really want to make quilts for my little girls so that they can always have something I made them.

Hi! Love the fabric you are giving away! Why do I quilt? I love seeing how colors go together(and surprised by how some work that I don't think they could and ones I think would be perfect aren't!) It is also a way to show love and warmth to someone far away from you. One can give a hug to that person whenever they curl up under a quilt you have made. I am from the west coast of FL where we don't need quilts too often!*g*
Thank you for an outstanding giveaway! My 4 year also likes for me to sleep with her! I am from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I quilt (not nearly as much as i would like) because although I have given nearly all my quilts away, the action of quilting is entirely for me...for being creative, for the relaxation of hand quilting, and for coveting fabric. Thanks again. ~~Jenny
Lovely fabric ! I quilt because I love it. Then I give it away and create even more happiness ! It also destresses when you do something you love. I am in the Uk and live by the sea near Dover.
I am from Germany. Actually I just started quilting, but it just seems fun to do.
You can contact me via a comment on my blog or the email provided there.
Great giveaway! I'm from Toronto, ON. I think the reason I quilt so much is really similar to your reason; I love the thought that my quilts cover people and keep them warm. I also really love giving anything as gifts that I made myself.
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!
count me in, please!!

Hi - I'm from Arkansas, USA. I quilt because I love the torture! Just kidding, I actually love to create things, and quilting is one thing I actually do OK at.
Hi! I'm from Illinois, USA.
I quilt to escape the insanity of the real worldand also because I like making things for other people.
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway! I love quilting because it is relaxing, encourages creativity, and at the end of the day you have a beauitful quilt to keep or give as a thoughtful gift!
Great giveaway! I'm brand new to quilting. I just finished my first (yeah, me!), and I can totally see how it's addictive. There's so much pride in making a quilt!
Great question! I think I quilt so much (which is not as much as some, since I am a relative beginner) because I love fabric. Quilting is a way to feature lots of different beautiful fabrics in one place. Thanks very much for the chance at your giveaway!
