May Giveaway Day

I am so excited. It is time for the Sew, Mama, Sew! May Giveaway Day. I am giving away 4 fat quarters from the Dick and Jane fabric line, 2 tablerunner patterns and 2 Dresden plate notecards. I had thought a lot about what question to ask you for the giveaway and then on Sunday my daughter asked me "Why do you quilt so much?" My quick answer to her was that I like keeping people warm and I can't sleep with everybody. (My daughter is 4 and likes to sleep with me.) So this is what you need to do to enter the giveaway.

1) Tell me where you are from.
2) Tell me why you quilt so much?
3) The giveaway is open until May 31st at 11:59 pm EST. I will be drawing the name randomly on June 1, when the winner will be announced. I will ship internationally and will contact the winner to get his/her address on June 1st.

That's it! I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy all of the giveaways.

Thank you for such generosity. The fabrics are lovely. Why do I quilt--because it satisfies my creative urge and allows me to live among beautiful colours and fabrics. Where am I from--a farm outside of Dunham, a small town in Quebec, Canada.

Beautiful things to 'give away'! My kids ask me why I quilt too. I like being able to give the goodness of homemade things to friends and relatives. I love the way you can make something out of practically nothing and it is beautiful in the end. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

I am from MA and I quilt/sew so much because it helps me keep sane and busy so that the everyday stressed of raising two kids and an impending delivery of the 3rd don't get to me as much!

Hi, I am from Wisconsin. Unfortunately I am just a beginner, so haven't really done much quilting, but I have definitely caught the bug! :)

Oh, yum. I love the giveaway! I love quilting because quilts are a functional craft -- I hate useless items that just sit around and collect dust. I also love the intersection between others' design and your own!

I love the question and I've been thinking a lot about this my self. I have a one year old and feel a little guilty that I can't wait until nap time to be creative. RIght now I quilt so much as a release. To feel creative and productive.

I quilt for a similar reason as you. I like to keep everyone warm. I like to bring smiles to the people I make quilts for. A handmade quilt shows them that they are important enough for someone to take their time to make them a special gift.

Wow! What a lovely package you have put together!
I am from Washington State. I have started quilting because I love combining fabrics. It is exhilirating to find just the right mix... how the colors come together affects one's mood. either quiet and restful or playful or however I am feeling when I choose the fabrics.

I'm from Ottawa.

One of the main reasons I quilt so much/knit so much/sew so much is that so many people are so impressed that someone so young is capable of making things and being part of a rich, dying history.

Hello there! I hail from the great state of Minnesota, and why do I quilt so much? Well, I quilt quite a bit because I have this crazy creativity that is all bottled up and must come out somehow! Plus, it is something that my mom and I enjoy doing together, and it's just great fun! I am so excited about your giveaway, because I've always wanted to make a Dresden Plate quilt! Thanks for the chance to win these great items!

I am from all over, have lived in NJ for 1 year next week. I quilt so much because it's a great hobby to have when you move a lot (doesn't require company but company makes it more fun!) and it's a great way to let friends know you care although you're far away. Those fabrics would be great for the 2 baby quilts I've got to make for friends from our last stay in Texas!

Renee said...

I am from the state of Indiana, USA. I am a fairly new quilter and I enjoy it because there are so many different ways to make a fabric shine with all the different quilt blocks out there. I also love how any quilt block can take on so many different looks depending on the fabric used or by just turning it. I love the answer you gave your daughter!

I quilt because I love the look and feel of a finished quilt (not that I have any large ones yet!), and I love the idea of far off grandchildren wrapping up in them, too. I like taking little bits and making them into something beautiful, too.

Ha, I wish I could say "I quilt so much". Really, I don't. I only just got started quilting but have fallen in love with sewing all over since trying my hand at quilting. The reasons... It started with wanting to create warm loving protective things for my daughters to cuddle up with now and hopefully still twenty years from now. But what got me hooked is the fact that there are literally endless options in quilting. It feels like there are no limits to one's creativity and that just amazed me. It's like going on a wild exciting ride with textures, colors, shapes and lotsandlots of good loving thoughts. Sigh. I love quilting. :)
Oh, and I'm from Wiesbaden, a city in central Germany. ;)

What beautiful fabric! I've always admired the Dick and Jane line. I'm from a small Ohio town and I just started quilting. It allows me to be creative, relax, and end up with a finished product. I love being able to give something made with love as a gift!

I am new to quilting, just started in 2008. BUT I have been sewing since I was a little kid. My mom taught me and she and I started cutting out little squares from her fabric collection for "Our" quilt. We never actually got very far, but I always remember going into fabric stores with her and how much fun it was to get excited over the colors and designs...I miss my mom and now every project I start I remember those moments in the craft and fabric stores. I am from Denver, PA (Lancaster County...so I am in the epicenter of quilting)

I'm from Malaysia. I love the way how a quilt looks like - from the large number of fabrics that can go together to make something beautiful to the crinkly look and feeling of the final quilting.

I am posting from Fröndenberg in Germany - a very very small town. Why I quilt so much ? Our house is still very empty and all walls are just "white" for now. So still a lot to fill with colorfull quilts to make it become our home.

I am from Michigan. Unfortunately I don't quilt "so much" so I will answer why I DON'T quilt so much... I have a 15 month old, we bought our house last June and since it is finally spring we are working really hard on fixing it up, we are planting a huge garden with my parents, and I do a lot of mowing and stuff at my parent's house to help them out! I can't wait until I get more time to sew and quilt!

Sarah said...

I forgot to say where I was from in the last comment :)
I'm from Ottawa, ON, and I quilt because it's relaxing, creative, and I get something beautiful at the end. Also, I have this need to do something with my hands.

Hello!
I am from Helensburgh, NSW, Australia!
I quilt because I like the journey. I like choosing fabrics and deciding on a pattern. I like laying it all out and cutting it into neat bits. I love sewing it all together and pressing it and then sewing it all together again!
Thanks
Rene

Secondly I ran out of Dick and Jane cause I evidently didn't buy enough so this is the perfect giveaway for me!

Hi! Love the fabric you are giving away! Why do I quilt? I love seeing how colors go together(and surprised by how some work that I don't think they could and ones I think would be perfect aren't!) It is also a way to show love and warmth to someone far away from you. One can give a hug to that person whenever they curl up under a quilt you have made. I am from the west coast of FL where we don't need quilts too often!*g*

Thank you for an outstanding giveaway! My 4 year also likes for me to sleep with her! I am from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I quilt (not nearly as much as i would like) because although I have given nearly all my quilts away, the action of quilting is entirely for me...for being creative, for the relaxation of hand quilting, and for coveting fabric. Thanks again. ~~Jenny

Great question! I think I quilt so much (which is not as much as some, since I am a relative beginner) because I love fabric. Quilting is a way to feature lots of different beautiful fabrics in one place. Thanks very much for the chance at your giveaway!
