WIP Wednesday - Valentine's Quilt

Storm at Sea Hearts

Well, I changed my mind. I decided if not now, then when? I took out my other Valentine quilt based on the Storm at Sea block and decided to get it together. I was getting tired of carting the scraps around and I would love to be able to use them in other projects. I should be able to get the top done in 2 weeks. Design Wall Monday - Reading Rainbow

Reading Rainbow

I got my blocks finished on the weekend. I now need to add the sashing and borders. I love how it has turned out and it has been great to find a use for fabrics that I have had for years. Check out what others have on their Design Walls at Patchwork Times.

On The Needles - Ribbed Socks

Ribbed sock for kids

I started the second sock for my daughter in a different pattern. I was not too happy with the first sock, so I found a different pattern and decided to try it out. For the first sock, I was making up the pattern as I went along. I am much happier with the second one, so the first one will be pulled apart and started again. Third time's the charm.  The pattern is free from Spud & ChloĆ«. Check out what others have On The Needles at Patchwork Times.

WIP Wednesday - Reading Rainbow

I have been working away at my Reading Rainbow. It is simple to do but you need to pay attention to how all of the parts fit together. I decided to put one of the sections together to see what it look like and to give myself some motivation.

Reading Rainbow

The thing I realized after I had cut all of the fabric, is that they have variations in colour and that affects how the sections get put together. I tried as best as possible to match colour variations to one another so that in the end it will look cohesive.  Linking to WIP Wednesday at The Needle and Thread Network and WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

Love Is

I have finally realized the problem with Valentine's Day. It comes too close to Christmas. For the past few years I have finished up with Christmas, put everything away, recovered and then realized I only had a couple of weeks to finish up my Valentine's quilts. Valentine's Day comes and goes, and the project gets set aside again. This year I decided that I would get one of the quilts done.

Love Is

I put the blocks together Friday and it is now off to the quilter's and it will be ready for Valentine's Day. This project has really been a labour of love!

One Word

I have been doing the one word for the year, for the past two years and I have decided to continue this year. I found that my last two words, Myself, and Breathe really helped so I took some time to make a decision. I had it narrowed done to two choices and then made the final decision.

RELAX

I was worried that for 2013 I needed to have a focus, or join a lot of different groups. I decided instead to relax, and enjoy quilting for its many stress free benefits, though it can be stressful at times. I also decided to relax in life as well, and focus on the things that I can do and change, and try to let go of some of the rest. It has been a week and it has been working though nothing is ever perfect.

Cosmetic bag

On a lighter note, I made this cosmetic bag for my niece for Christmas. She absolutely loved it, which surprised me a bit. The bottom fabric was used as the border for the quilt I gave her last year at Christmas. I also need to give a huge thank you to Darlene of Quilting Daze and  Cheryl of Polka Dots & Rick Rack . I participated in the Christmas Throughout the Year, and as well as managing to make 3 scarfs, and a cosmetic bag the week before Christmas, I also got a quilt done, and some smaller projects that I made throughout the year. It all helped to make Christmas less stressful for me. I am linking to Linky Tuesday hosted by Freemotion by the River.

Reading Rainbow

Here is my project I started on January 1. I have always wanted to have a rainbow quilt for myself, and I was happy to find a grown-up pattern. The pattern has lots of bits and pieces so I am finding labeling to be very useful. Check out what others have on their Design Walls at Patchwork Times.

Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose

Here is my Christmas Rose quilt. I absolutely love how it was quilted. It was a hard one to give away. I gave it to my mother at Christmas time, but I had a bit of the binding left to do on it. I decided at the eleventh hour that I wanted to try to quilt a top for my nephew which did not work out so well.  I would love to make this one again.  I am linking up to TGIFF.

WIP Wednesday - Taffy

To start on some new projects I decided old ones needed to be gotten out of the way. That might be the theme for the year, one new, one old. All the blocks were organized to be sewn together, so I did not want to put it away.  Presenting my first quilt top finish of the year, Taffy.

Now, I have one more to be added to the to be quilted pile. The pile is getting a bit big! Check out what others are working on at Freshly Pieced.

New Year, New Project, Old Ties

The start of a new year made me want the start of a new project. I have had these fabrics for years, and finally found something I love to use them in. This quilt will be for me.

As I had to clean my quilting room before I could start on anything, my Taffy project started calling to me. I had all the blocks done and organized. I started sewing them together this afternoon. I have yet to decide on what this year's focus will be for me, though I do have a few ideas.

Happy New Year!
