Christmas Through The Year

Well, thank goodness for the Leap Year. I was able to get my train to stop at the station just in time to get another gift done.

I have been having fun making these small pouches and this one will go to a person who likes pink and flowers. Hopefully, next month's gift will be done a bit sooner. Check out what others have made for Christmas Through The Year at Quilting Daze.

Just maybe ..

Last night while I was working on my zigzag quilt, I came across some of my reject blocks that I had made using the same fabric. I had made the Jacob's Ladder and then decided I was not happy with them and set them aside. Looking at them through new eyes, I quite liked them and thought with some pizazz they could turn into a really nice quilt. Even though I am working on my UFOs, I have come to appreciate the fact that it is good to take time to make things, and that everything has a purpose. Something I might not like today, might work out for something else tomorrow. It is the process and the beauty which brings me serenity. I will need to remember that the next time I am picking out stitches.

So close

My zigzag quilt is so close to having all of its blocks done. Once I decided not to have it finished for Christmas it got set aside while I worked on some other projects and then I got busy with my 2012 UFO Challenge. Today I was so tempted to start working on a new quilt, I even got out some fabric and petted it lovingly but decided I needed the zigzag quilt off of my design wall. I am very spoiled in that I have two design walls, but it would be great to use that space for other things. Check out what others have done at WIP Wednesday at The Needle and Thread Network.

Friday Night Sew-In

I had an enjoyable Friday Night Sew-In. I worked on the piano key border for my quilt that was on my UFO list last year. I like how the border enhances the quilt but I miss seeing more of the tulip fabric from the collection. I must say that this UFO Challenge has become an addiction. There are times when I want to start a new quilt but then I remember all the quilts still waiting for me, so I choose one of  those instead.

Look of Love

The look of love comes in many different shapes and sizes. For me as a quilter, the look of love is a recovered ironing board which I received for Valentine's Day. The ironing board had been made by my husband, and it definitely needed to be recovered.

The look of love for myself is Friday Night Sew-In. I have decided to set aside my Valentine's Heart quilt for now, while I decide if I am going to get some more deep reds for it, so I will be working on some of my other PHDs. Please join me!

Design Wall Monday - One Week One Thing Challenge 10

I now have the middle section of my Valentine Heart quilt finished. For the middle section, I used my Tri-Recs rulers and found that they worked well. I have been enjoying this, but find it goes a bit slowly. I have quite a few reds, but not enough that I can put any fabric anywhere. I kept the quilt laid out on my ironing board and did a small section at a time. Of course now that I look at it, I can see that I have too much red along the sides. Luckily that can be easily fixed. I am linking to Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times. I am also going to be participating in Amy's One Thing, One Week Challenge. Along with fixing the mistake, I would like to get the last deep red heart finished.

Sunday Stash

The good thing about leaving Christmas quilts until after Christmas is that you can get some good fabric on sale. I needed some backing fabric for my Christmas presents quilt and since the quilt will be for me, I did not mind waiting.  I got the backing fabric, as well as the binding and some great Christmas fabric too.

I have also found a great way to get rid of some of your stash. Magically, it can disappear into your daughter's room, and be used for many things besides quilts. Who knew!

UFO Challenge 2012 - January

I have gotten the columns sewn together for my Christmas Rose quilt and now I need to put together the rows. Considering the fact that I had absolutely nothing done for it at the beginning of the month I am happy with my progress.

#1 was chosen for the month of January which should be my Snowmen quilt. It is second in the list of needing the most done to get it completed, and since I have a couple of other commitments for the month I am going to trade it for #6 - my Valentine Heart quilt. Check out Patchwork Times to see what others have gotten done.
